This course is designed especially for busy managers. It will give you a head start and arm you with everything you need to avoid misunderstandings and cultural differences.
You are a busy manager and simply don’t have the time to spend 2 hours a week indefinitely at Dutch lessons. Moreover, you can get by quite well because practically all your staff speak English … with you. Now that you have been in Holland for 6 months, you are starting to realize that you only understand what your staff are saying when they are talking to you; not what they say when they talk amongst themselves and so you are missing out on a lot of vital information and insight. Similarly with meetings, they are held in English when you are present - but you miss all the asides, the informal comments and you have the feeling you are not playing the fully central role that you would like to.
Yes, it’s lonely at the top. In your own country (United Kingdom, the US, Deutschland, France, Italia …) it is normal that you, as the manager, inform staff about the decisions that you and the board have made during meetings. You do that in Holland too but goodness, it takes such a long time to get the information over and meetings run on so much longer than necessary. What would take half an hour at home takes two hours here. Why does that happen? What are the root causes? Can you do anything about it?
The Plezier in taal training ‘Dutch as a second language - a special course for managers’ will give you the answer to these questions and also the tools and insight to be able to handle many other situations. This head start will certainly save you time and, if you really don’t have the time for ongoing, weekly two-hour training sessions, perhaps an intensive weeklong course is the solution you need. This will help you feel less excluded and those difficult situations, rooted in simple cultural differences, will be easy for you to avoid.
If you would like to know more about this course, please call me or send me an email. I would be pleased to give you more information.
During the lessons we are, of course, sensitive to cultural differences. It is often not just a question of how you say something, but what you say in which situation!
